How to prepare for a session
-
Unfortunately, the best light for photography remains the first light of the morning... which means the session will most likely take place around 7 am. By this ungodly hour, your horse should be ready to go!

-
It is also possible to schedule a session before sunset but considering the Texas summers, let's take advantage of the cool hours of the day!

-
I prefer a dark grey sky to a sunny day to photograph your horse so do not hesitate to schedule a session even if the weather does not seem very promising.
-
Do not grease your horse's hooves just before the session. They will be covered in sand or dust within two minutes. The cleanier and shinier your horse is, the better (but keep in mind that your little friend will probably roll and destroy all your good work in no time!)

-
Pastures are great to photograph your horse free of restraints. If you have a choice of several pastures, the most scenic would of course be best. Make sure to secure a pasture for the shoot with the stable owner (do not however let your horse loose before my arrival.)

-
Horses interracting together freely generally offer great photographic opportunities. If you can arrange for your horse to be joined by another during the session, I have a better chance of getting great natural shots.
-
If you want to be part of the session with your horse (or on your horse), make sure not to wear any patterns nor extremely bright colors or whites (you do not want to steal the show, do you?) We will consult on"what not to wear" when you schedule your appointment.
-
A fresh horse always photographs better than a tired one. Make sure your horse is well rested before the shoot.
